Cross — A pass from a wide position into the penalty area. Auto-detected from pass coordinates.
Ball Carrying
Carry — Moving with the ball at your feet (not a pass or dribble attempt).
Progressive Carry (Fwd Carry) — A carry that advances the ball at least 10 yards toward goal. Shows willingness to drive forward.
Take On — A 1v1 dribble attempt to beat a defender. Success means getting past them.
Shooting
Shot — Any attempt to score a goal. Tracked with where it was taken from and the outcome.
xG (Expected Goals) — A number from 0 to 1 showing how likely a shot is to become a goal, based on the American Soccer Analysis (ASA) model (2020). Factors include distance to goal, shooting angle, body part, and match situation. A penalty is about 0.76 xG. A shot from 25 yards is about 0.03 xG.
Cross — A pass from a wide area into the penalty box.
Defending
Tackle — An attempt to win the ball from an opponent using your feet.
Interception — Reading the play and cutting out an opponent's pass.
Block — Getting your body in the way of a shot or pass.
Aerial Duel — A contest for a ball in the air (header challenge).
Ground Duel — A 1v1 physical contest for the ball on the ground.
Dribbled Past — When an opponent successfully dribbles past this player.
Recovery — Winning the ball back after it was loose or contested.
Press — Actively closing down an opponent to force a mistake or win the ball.
Turnover — Losing possession through a mistake (bad touch, misplaced pass, being dispossessed).
Advanced Metrics
xT (Expected Threat) — Based on the Karun Singh Expected Threat model (2018), which maps every zone on the pitch to a goal-scoring probability. A value showing how much a pass or carry increased the chance of scoring. Moving the ball from your own half to the edge of the box generates high xT.
Progressive Actions — The total of progressive passes + progressive carries. This is what college coaches look at — it shows how much a player advances play.
Pass Completion % — Percentage of passes that reached a teammate. 80%+ is strong.
